After a rigorous validation process, the United Nations registered the project that produces clean energy, which avoids the emission of greenhouse gases. “Caeólica and Cape Verde are proud to integrate this project into the CDM due to the importance of this Framework Convention and the worldwide recognition of the clean energy we produce” says Antão Fortes, CEO of Cabeólica.

Cabeólica has 4 Wind Farms with an installed capacity of 25.5 MW, generating more than a fifth of the electricity consumed on the main islands, and which avoids the production of around 60,000 tons of greenhouse gases per year, in addition to contributing to the reduction fuel import needs.

The United Nations launched the CDM in February 2001 with the aim of mitigating global climate change. This mechanism allows projects aimed at reducing the emission of greenhouse gases in developed countries to receive Certified Emission Reduction credits (CER - Certified Emission Reduction) that can be sold or purchased so that each country contributes to achieving the targets defined by the Kyoto Protocol.
